About the event
Our upcoming December ReWild Your Child Clinic with La Luz Micro Middle School features a meeting with two Colorado legends, Gerry Roach and Jim Bishop.
Both of these remarkable individuals, 80 years of age, have made significant contributions to the Colorado community.
Jim Bishop, who has spent nearly six decades constructing Bishop Castle, has created one of the most remarkable structures worldwide. The castle is a grand statue built of stone and iron, symbolizing the beauty and greatness of persevering with one's dreams. The castle features three full stories of interior rooms, including a grand ballroom, soaring towers and bridges with vistas of a hundred miles, and a fire-breathing dragon, all making for a memorable experience. Visitors can enjoy the castle free of charge, and it remains open all year round.
La Luz Middle School will celebrate the end of the school year by camping out inside Bishop Castle, with special permission from the Bishop Family + ACA.
Gerry Roach, a world-renowned mountaineer, authored numerous books including essential Colorado guidebooks, including Colorados 13er and 14er From Hikes to Climbs, which many consider the mountaineering bible. Throughout his over 60 years of mountaineering, Gerry has climbed in numerous states and countries, including 12 Alaskan, 10 Andean, and 7 Himalayan expeditions. After climbing Mt. Everest, he was the second person to climb the highest peak on each of the seven continents.
Gerry, who still climbs Colorado's highest Rocky Mountain peaks to this day, will discuss his recent fall while climbing an unnamed 13,000-foot peak in the San Juans, requiring rescue by Search and Rescue, for the first time in all his years of adventuring.
This will be the very first time these two Colorado Legends meet in person, and we're excited to reinforce to the kids at La Luz Middle School how following one's dreams and passions can shape one's path in life
