When Mario Burciaga from Arc'teryx Denver told us Nerissa Cannon's story, we jumped at the chance to get involved! Today, No Barriers USA organized a group hike which took Nerissa Cannon, using her GRIT Freedom all-terrain wheelchair, to the summit of Mount Bierstadt, the 14er (a mountain that exceeds 14,000 feet - 14,065' in this case). We had a strong team of over 30 folks pushing, pulling, and tugging Nerissa over boulder rocks, through a river crossing, and UP A MOUNTAIN!
Erik Weihenmayer, the co-founder of No Barriers USA, organized the event and helped to push Nerissa along the way. Erik is the first blind person to reach the summit of Mt. Everest and to also complete the Seven Summits, which is comprised of the highest point on every continent.
Today once again proved that the only disability you have is a bad attitude, and that you are only as strong as those you surround yourself with.
Thank you to the Always Choose Adventures - Colorado® brand ambassadors, members, and volunteers that showed up to help today, and to No Barriers USA and Arc'teryx Denver for putting this life changing day together! And many, many thanks to Nerissa for letting us be a part of her journey!
